The economy of biodiversity conservation promises: science, politics, imagination, and practices
Most proposals to address the ecological crisis over the last decades have been based on a combination of techno-scientific and economic promises. The international biodiversity conservation regime and public policies are thus permeated and shaped by the promise of ensuring both conservation and its compatibility with continuing economic development. This interdisciplinary workshop aims to study the economy of these promises, drawing on science and technology studies and political ecology. The participants will explore the epistemic and discursive foundations of various initiatives focused on the use and conservation of biodiversity, and present alternative epistemologies and practices.
This is the final workshop of Prof. Valérie Boisvert’s SNFS Project: “Institutional promises and their constitutive force: Market-based solutions to the biodiversity crisis”.
Location: UNIL, Amphipôle, Room 340.1
